Ultrasonic Collars
Ultrasonic Collars
If your dog is wearing an ultrasonic noise collar, then he is treated to an extremely high-pitched and unpleasant siren noise every time he barks above a particular decibel level. That said, these collars rarely work and could even encourage barking. This is different than a citronella dog bark collar.
The sound emitted is very high-pitched and ultrasonic. Unfortunately, many dogs don't actually have ultrasonic hearing, meaning they wouldn't be able to sense the collar siren anyway.
If the ultrasonic collar is emitting a high-pitched noise, that noise may be encouraging your dog to bark louder and longer. Typically, when dogs hear noises, they consider it their cue to either start barking or continue barking. That's why many ultrasonic devices just don't work.
Barking Can be a Nuisance
Barking that is a simple nuisance is not the same as barking that is pathologically excessive. Most of the barking we have talked about thus far is normal barking behavior except for that connected to separation anxiety. Barking usually stops when play begins or the invitation goes unanswered.
Owners need to teach their dogs what is or it not acceptable barking. This learning process can be time consuming, and persistence is required to achieve successful results. Owners who seek advice in dealing with a barking problem may already have employed some type of punishment, which is ineffective. They may have tried different approaches such as throwing something at the dog or shouting at it.
We have trained our 2 hunting dogs with numerous dog training techniques. Our Vizslas Abby and Peaches hunt and are competitive in AKC sponsored events. These are the fundamentals with which we teach our dogs. Flexibility, Consistency, Fairness or Positive attitude are all key to successful dog training with a citronella dog collar.
Humane Dog Collars
A Humane Choice - Citronella
Probably the most humane bark collar is the citronella spray model. Basically, each time the dog barks above a certain decibel level, the collar emits a light mist of citronella, which is an irritating scent for canines. The experience is somewhat unpleasant, but not painful or unnecessarily cruel. Eventually, the dog will connect its barking to the citronella scent.
Where to Find Citronella Collars
There are two major and popular brands for citronella dog collars - these are the Premiere Gentle Spray Anti-Bark Collar and the MultiVet No Bark Spray Collar.
The Premiere Gentle Spray Collar is significantly more expensive than other brands and usually costs between $70 and $80. However, online specials can often be found for as low as $30 to $40. Refills for this product typically cost less than $5, but it comes with a full-sized can of citronella.
Dog Collars For YOu?
They are one of the simplest and most humane training aids I have found for working with dogs.
So you're ready to get a puppy or dog, but just aren't sure how to prepare. First, think of all the pet supplies you'll need to have already on hand before your new pet arrives. Some things are needful now and some pet supplies can be purchased later on.What to Do When Your Dog Barks Like Crazy
